The #1 cost to industry and heavy equipment operators is equipment downtime. This is closely followed by the loss of productivity and associated replacement parts cost. Hardfacing can be an effective tool in addressing these costs and lowering the cost / hour of operation in earth moving equipment. When abrasion conditions become too severe for ground engaging tools such as those used in mining, construction, and agriculture, or when the cost of equipment downtime requires more frequent application of hardfacing using chromium carbide alloys, then the expense of using tungsten carbide can be justified.
