Every welder should have a good understanding of modes of metal transfer (MOMT). In this video, we discuss three different modes of metal transfer and their purpose. In GMAW, modes of metal transfer rely heavily on the shielding gas composition, and the welding parameters. Voltage and wire feed speed will vary greatly from one mode to the next.

In an effort to educate the masses on the restrictions of short circuit GMAW transfer we decided to do a fillet weld break test in the shop on some 3/8" plate. Over the course of my career, I have been in many shops where short circuiting MIG has been used on materials thicker than 5/16".

Today we are discussing and demonstrating Pulse Spray MIG in the 3G position. Pulse Spray is an alternative to Spray transfer, which is restricted to flat fillets and grooves and horizontal fillets only.
